Nang Nang is arguably, the most glamorous and most beautiful of the all the Ilio cousins.  When I was growing up in Malinao in the 60s, I remember the cousins talk about her legendary beauty (especially that she migrated to Manila and then to Olongapo and therefore was seldom seen in Malinao).  Nang Nang is Nay Fining’s eldest daughter, and the mother of Bella, Nancy, Sheila, John Vergel and the twins, Ricky and Randy.  She is married to Nong Virgilio.

If you are wondering who sent us the first e-mail regarding the Hilarion 2010 and basically blazed the trail for us … well … here she is!  Ng Emma is the daughter of Nay Fining and Tay Tinong … and therefore is a member of the Tropa ni Epifania:

Errol Rampola (son of Edmundo ‘Dante’ and Elizabeth) sent me these pictures of a camping trip to Yosemite National Park in California (he also posted these pictures in our yahoo group). Two Ilio families, the Rampolas (Tropa ni Epifania) and the Romeros (Tropa ni Maxima) were represented. Both families are based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Here’s Errol’s introduction:

My name is Errol Icawalo “ILIO” Rampola, descendant of the late Epifania Ilio and Constantino Rampola, son of the late Edmundo “Dante” Rampola. I was delivered in the free world by my parents on December 10, 1975. The Rampola Family migrated and currently lives in San Francisco Bay Area, California on December 10, 1989. What a long birthday I had that day due to the timezone changes. I am the youngest of 3 boys… and the most good-looking as well, of course *wink*. My mother, Elizabeth Ibardolasa Icawalo, mentioned in the previous message posting that she has a mixed race of grandchildren. Yes, this is very true!!! My brother, Erwin Rampola (35 yrs old) married to Lisa Carvalho-Rampola has a half Puerto Rican/half Filipino daughter named Savannah Elizabeth Rampola, my eldest brother, Edmund Ian Rampola has 2 boys – both half Am-boys named Jordan Crisp-Rampola and Keanu Lee Rampola, and of course I have a half Visayan/half Batangenio 7-year old daughter named Ekaylah Noelle Rampola. Does that count as mixed? That would be a dangerous mix of a WARAY with BALISONG put together. My wife, Diwa Bautista Bayani, is a descendant of The Bautista Families of Nasugbu, Batangas. Their family tree has a very unique Ancentral link to the “TROPA NI JOSE” and “TROPA NI DOMINADOR” Clans. To make a long story short… there were some strong wishes of our Ancestors from the Ilio and Bautista Clan to unite in Holy Matrimony. After 3 generations of trying, here we are fulfilling our Ancestral Prophecy. You may call it faith or destiny, I call it overwhelming! We both never knew any of our Heritage until 3 years later in marriage at a dinner table. We started wondering after finding out if we were indeed related by blood… imagine how that felt. We never met each other in the past, only worked together at the same company in California. Funny how small the world could be!

Nancy and Carlos

I received email and pictures from Nancy (Teng) Castaneda who is the daughter of Nang Nang (Clarita) and Nong Virgilio. It was a delight hearing from Nancy – the last time I saw her was in the 70s the first time I went to Olongapo City where Nang Nang and Nong Virgilio are based. One of their cousins was being inducted to the US Navy – and we got to be invited to the ceremonies inside the US Naval Base in Subic! At that time, Filipinos were not allowed inside the base (unless you’re working there).

AT anyrate, this is what she wrote:

I’m Nancy (fondly called Nanteng or Teng) Nang Calay’s 2nd to the eldest daughter. We are all 6 children in the family, Ate Bel the eldest, is now in San Diego as well as Sheila in Daly City. There are still 3 boys after Sheila – John Vergel who is now working in an oil rig in Saudi Arabia, then the twins Randy and Ricky. Randy is currently teaching Korean language here in Olongapo after working in Korea for 9 yrs. Ricky is working in SBMA. I am married to Carlos Castaneda and blessed with 3 children. My eldest is April Anne, 28 yrs of age then Marvin Andrew 25, and the youngest is Michael Carlo 21. I already have 4 grandchildren, Chester, Michaela, Trisha and Carlos Jose. That’s my family and thanks for the effort bringing us together.

BTW, Nancy belongs to the Tropa ni Epifania and is based in Olongapo City. Kung bumisita kayo sa Subic, please let her know.
