A breath of fresh air: our roots through the eyes of Russell

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Let’s have a breath of fresh air naman … amidst all these sad news.  Russell (si Bimbo na anak ni Ng Merlyn at Oca) sent everyone these photos of Malinao.  Some of you may have not received them through the mail (if you opted to read mails on the web), so here they are …

Reunion and renewal of ties

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

The fact of the matter is, one of the few times that we gather as a complete clan/family … is during the death – wake and/or burial – of a loved one. Yes, it is a time of grieving for the departed, but it is also a time for renewal of ties with long lost cousins and other relatives, some of whom we don’t even know exist, and a time for celebration of the life of the dearly beloved who we are sending to journey of a different kind.

So here we are, gathered again, honoring the life of Nay Maxima “Ansing” Ilio Romero.

You know who you are (or please help in ID in the comments section):

Nay Chedeng with ER

We will all miss Nay Chedeng (Tay Peping’s wife) who passed away on  Nov. 18, 2008.   To members of Tropa ni Jose (Peping), our deep condolences.  As Rev. Fr. Philip said, “May the soul of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Rest assured that Nay Chedeng will be in our prayers and Masses in the following days and weeks and months.”

Homer and his swimming medals

Before Michael Phelps, there was Homer, at least in the Hilarion Ilio family.  Cousin Homer was a Philippine-ranked swimmer in regular and paralympics competitions.  He is a member of the Tropa ni Jose (Peping) and he and his family and are currently based in Dubai.

Here’s Homer with his loved ones:

Homer writes:

Ito ako ngayon nagtitiis sa init nang araw sa bayan ng Dubai, pero OK lang kasi lima kami dito -  ako, si Rosendo, Alejo, Grace at Gideon.  Six years na ako dito na walang uwian sa Pinas.

Here’s Homer at his place of work – in the field and in the office:
